
The five-piece – Cheryl Cole, Nadine Coyle, Sarah Harding, Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh – had hoped to celebrate the group’s big birthday with an appearance at Glastonbury. But with Glasto taking a break in 2012 to avoid an Olympics clash, they have now set their sights on the Games.
They are now in talks with promoters about a possible London 2012 festival to be held at the O2.
A source told The Sun: “The girls are getting very excited. The promoters are only looking to book massive, show-stopping acts, which they would be perfect for.
“They would tick the pop box while The Rolling Stones would appeal to a much wider audience.”
Girls Aloud were formed as part of ITV talent show Popstars: The Rivals in 2002.
