A South African youngster who starred in a London 2012 promotional video claims the organisers have gone back on a promise to invite him to the opening ceremony.
Siphiwe Mbatha, then aged 12, played the part of an Olympic running hopeful in the campaign, which helped to secure the Games for London.
Now aged 18, Siphiwe claims the organisers have failed to honour a promise to bring him to London for the Olympics.
He told The Telegraph: “When I came to Britain in 2005, Sebastian Coe said ‘Come back for the Olympics’. But I haven’t spoken to anyone from London for almost six years. I thought I was coming to the opening ceremony but no one has contacted me.”
A London 2012 spokesperson had a quite different version of events.
The spokesman said: “London 2012 has stayed in contact with Siphiwe and we hear the opposite from him. He has said to us that ‘London has changed everything for me, I love London.’ We are delighted that his experience with London and being involved with the bid has been positive for him.”
Well, either Siphiwe has some sort of split personality disorder or someone is telling porkies.
