Here’s a story that is bound to leave the Daily Mail in a bit of a quandary.
The Mayor of London’s office has today released £50,000 for each London borough to spend on flags, bunting and Olympic decorations.
Mayor Boris Johnson said funds would “help us put on the best show and showcase ourselves to the world”.
Councils can submit their proposals for how they would like to decorate their streets for approval, or they can follow a “look book” catalogue of designs and the materials they can spend their money on.
But the question for the Daily Mail is: are we seeing some good old-fashioned British patriotism afoot or is this a complete waste of taxpayers’ money? Difficult call.
